Bank vice president

BANGOR — Tony C. McKim, president and CEO of The First and its parent company, The First Bancorp, announced that Benjamin Sprague has been hired as vice president and business relationship officer for the bank’s Bangor office.

Sprague was born and raised in Bangor and graduated from Bangor High School in 2002. He earned a bachelor’s degree in government from Harvard University in 2006. Before returning to Maine, he worked for the Boston Red Sox organization for four years and also taught high school diploma, career development and computer classes in Boston. For the past six years, he was employed as an investment manager and financial adviser, first in Massachusetts and most recently in Bangor.

Sprague was elected to the Bangor City Council in 2011 and re-elected in 2014.  He was chosen unanimously by his colleagues to be the Council chairman for 2013-2014. His work on the City Council has focused on growing the economy of the Bangor region and making the city a safe, vibrant, dynamic community for people of all ages. He was awarded the Catherine Leibowitz Award for Public Service by the Bangor Region Chamber of Commerce in 2014 and the Fusion Leadership and Vision Award in 2013.

Sprague has organized various service projects over the years, including the Our Backs to Theirs clothing drive and a voter registration drive that was recognized by MTV’s Rock the Vote campaign. He ran in the Boston Marathon to raise money for the Dana Farber Cancer Institute in 2007 and 2008.

Currently, Sprague is the chairman of the Tri County Workforce Investment Board and serves on the boards of Good Shepherd Food Bank and the Bangor YMCA.

New staff members

Curtis C. Simard, president and CEO of Bar Harbor Bank and Trust, announced that Joseph Scully of Plymouth and Roger Gray of Hudson have joined the bank’s staff.

Scully will serve as senior vice president of information technology and project management.

Gray will hold the post of information security officer.

Open house

ORONO — Members of the public, including innovators and entrepreneurs, are invited to a free open house noon-2 p.m. Thursday, June 11, at the Target Technology Center, 20 Godfrey Drive. The event will offer tours of the facility, a barbecue and opportunities to meet innovators in the Target Technology Center community.
