BANGOR — The Maine Troop Greeters in collaboration with the Bangor International Airport, the Maine Bureau of Veterans Services, the Bangor Convention and Visitors Center, and the city of Bangor will hold a special celebration  to honor and thank Vietnam Era Veterans 1-4 p.m. Sunday, June 14, at the Cross Insurance Center. Admission is free. Doors open at noon.

Chuck Knowlen, chairman of the Maine Troop Greeters board of directors, said, “This welcome home is long overdue. We have been honored to greet almost 1.5 million troops through Bangor International, but Sunday, June 14, will be a very special day for all of the greeters. In a way, it feels like we are righting a wrong. We look forward to shaking every veteran’s hand and saying, ‘Thank You for Your Service,’ and letting each one know how much we appreciate their service and their sacrifice.”

Veterans who served 1962-1975 are invited to take part in the event.

To receive a certificate of appreciation, Vietnam veterans are asked to register at visitbangormaine.com/Veteran, or call the Bangor Convention and Visitor’s Bureau at 947-5205 or toll free at 800-916-6673.
