COLUMBIA FALLS, Maine — A local man died Tuesday while attempting to light a wood stove with gasoline inside his home, according to the Department of Public Safety.
Chad Rathbun, 65, subsequently became engulfed in flames, according to spokesman Stephen McCausland.
Rathbun’s Tibbettstown Road home suffered smoke and water damage, and the fire was reported by a neighbor who spotted smoke.
Rathbun would have turned 66 on Friday. His death is the seventh Maine fire death in 2015.
