HARRINGTON, Maine — Driver fatigue was a factor in a Tuesday morning crash that knocked out power to 849 people in Harrington, the Washington County Sheriff’s Office reported Wednesday.

At approximately 12:04 a.m., a 2011 Chevrolet driven by 23-year-old Candice Looke of Addison was traveling east on Route 1 in Harrington when it struck a utility pole, according to a news release issued by Chief Deputy Michael Crabtree.

Driver fatigue was a contributing factor in this crash, the release says. Looke was wearing a seat belt and suffered no injuries.

Emera Maine spokesperson Susan Faloon said a number of the affected electric utility customers had power restored by 2:44 a.m. Tuesday. The rest had power back by 6:18 a.m.

“There was a broken pole, and [linemen] had to replace that pole just beyond the Irving station in Harrington,” Faloon said.

The Washington County Sheriff’s Office was assisted at the scene by members of the Harrington Fire Department.
