BANGOR, Maine — Residents on Bangor’s west side reported hearing strange noises late Tuesday evening into Wednesday.

It turned out to be construction progress.

Bangor Police Sgt. Tim Cotton said police fielded multiple calls regarding strange noises, but police learned it was a jackhammer working on the Union Street Interstate 95 overpass.

The bridge, built in 1960, is being replaced by a $8.8 million bridge. Construction has been under way since April 2014.
