This week in theoretical cartography exercises, here’s a map that re-imagines the states based on their gross domestic product.

The map, put together by Fixr.com, is built using the latest Bureau of Economic Analysis data, and re-sizes each state based on the size of its economy.

The colors rank the states’ gross domestic product per capita.

As BDN’s Darren Fishell reported last week, based on those BEA estimates, Maine’s GDP barely nudged in 2014, posting a paltry gain of 0.2 percent. That’s the lowest in New England, and the fourth-worst of all 50 states.

According to the BEA, all but two states — Alaska and Mississippi — saw some measure of growth in their GDP.
