PORTLAND, Maine — The Binghamton Mets scored three times in the fourth and four times in the fifth to upend the Portland Sea Dogs 7-1 Thursday night in Double-A baseball action and complete their three-game series sweep at Hadlock Field.
Binghamton stretches its win streak to seven games, while the Sea Dogs have dropped four in a row and seven straight at home.
Binghamton’s Michael Fulmer (2-0) successfully pitched out of several jams en route to a quality start, allowing one earned run on seven hits in 6 ⅓ innings. Portland stranded two runners in each of the second, third, fourth, and fifth innings, and finished the game 0-for-14 with runners in scoring position.
The Mets took the lead in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homer by Josh Rodriguez, his league-leading 12th of the year. He finished a triple shy of the cycle. Albert Cordero added an RBI single to make it 3-0 after four.
Binghamton would then send nine men to the plate in the fifth and add four more runs on five hits and a Sea Dogs’ error to make it a 7-0 lead.
Portland’s William Cuevas (6-4) allowed five earned runs in 4 1/3 innings, walking two and striking out five.
Portland’s lone run came on a solo home run by Aneury Tavarez, his first career Double-A homer.
