Kate Hall has dominated Maine high school track and field during the last three years.

On Sunday, the former Lake Region High School star capped off her career with a flourish.

Hall set a national high school record and an American junior mark with a leap of 22 feet, 5 inches in the long jump at the New Balance Outdoor National Track and Field Championships held in Greensboro, North Carolina.

Hall, who will attend Iowa State University in the fall, achieved the record on her last attempt, overcoming a jump of 21-5 ¼ by Californian Courtney Corrin.

Her performance eclipsed the record of 22-3 set in 1976 by Kathy McMillan of Hoke City, North Carolina. The effort also established a U.S. Junior mark, bettering the 1982 record of 22-3 ¾ held by Carol Lewis of the University of Houston, and is No. 9 on the all-time world Junior list.

Hall’s 22-5 is the third best jump among U.S. women this year and puts her at No. 10 in the world.

On Saturday, Hall earned a third-place finish in the women’s 100-meter dash. She clocked a personal-best time of 11.37 seconds, which was one-hundredth of a second behind runner-up Twanisha Terry and

.03 slower than winner Jayla Kirkland.

Also, Isaiah Harris of Lewiston sped to a third-place finish in the 800 meters at the New Balance meet.

Despite competing in the slow heat, Harris ran the fastest time in Maine history in 1 minute, 49.63 seconds. That was nearly two seconds faster than his previous best of 1:51.47 clocked at the New England Championship.

Harris will attend Penn State in the fall.
