PORTLAND, Maine — A Portland man pleaded guilty Tuesday to possessing child pornography during a hearing in U.S. District Court.
William Alfred Roscoe, 29, of Portland was arrested April 30 in connection with a U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement’s Homeland Security Investigation inquiry into the exchange of child pornography over the Internet
Agents seized a laptop computer located in the Portland apartment Roscoe shared with his girlfriend and her children, U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II said in a news release. Agents obtained a search warrant for the laptop.
A forensic analysis revealed numerous still images and video files depicting children engaged in sexually explicit conduct and that a user of the laptop had searched for files using keywords commonly associated with child pornography, Delahanty said.
Numerous files with titles indicative of child pornography were in the process of being downloaded to the laptop when agents took possession of the device, Delahanty said.
The investigation indicated Roscoe knowingly possessed the laptop and knew it contained child pornography.
Roscoe faces up to 20 years in prison, a $250,000 fine and supervised release for five years to life. He will be sentenced after the completion of a presentence investigation report by the U.S. Probation Office.
The investigation was conducted by HSI and the Portland Police Department.
