ARUNDEL, Maine — York County sheriff’s deputies, in conjunction with the Regional Impaired Driving Enforcement team, will be conducting sobriety checkpoints in the county on Wednesday, according to a statement from the sheriff’s office.
The checkpoints will be conducted in Lyman and Arundel, with enforcement activities planned for Routes 1, 111 and 35, the statement said.
The effort is being utilized to identify and arrest drivers who may be operating under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
The enforcement is funded by the Maine Bureau of Highway Safety, and the checkpoint is also aimed at increasing awareness of driving while intoxicated and the consequences of doing so.
