BANGOR, Maine — Electrical service was restored Monday evening to nearly 6,000 Emera Maine customers in Greater Bangor who went without it for several hours earlier in the day.

Emera Maine reported shortly after 3 p.m. that approximately 5,922 customers in Bangor, Glenburn, Orono, Hudson, Levant, Hermon and Kenduskeag were in the dark. Power was restored shortly after 7 p.m., according to the utility’s live outage map.

The cause of the outages was not immediately known.

Bangor police Lt. Cathy Rumsey said the power outage temporarily knocked out traffic lights controlling the intersections of Ohio Street and Griffin Road, Griffin Road and Kenduskeag Avenue and Broadway and Burleigh Road.

During the outage, the affected intersections were controlled with temporary stop signs, she said.
