BANGOR, Maine — Bangor Water District repair workers will return to the intersection of Main and Broad streets Tuesday to repair the second leak they’ve encountered in two days.

Late Monday morning, water service to 17 buildings along Main Street between Broad and Union Streets was shut off to allow crews to repair a leaking water valve, District Manager Kathy Moriarty said.

Moriarty said the water district sent out notices to businesses and apartment tenants notifying them of the leak repair. Water was shut off until 1 p.m. Monday, she said.

While addressing that problem, however, district employees discovered another leak, this one believed to involve a valve in the vicinity of Paddy Murphy’s Irish Pub.

“We’re going to work on that tomorrow to see if we can determine where the other leak is,” Moriarty said Monday evening.

“It’s leaking right into Emera’s electrical manhole, their pit area,” she said.

The leak appears to be a small one, she said. While there is an overflow outlet in the electric company’s pit, the water district wants to fix the leak so that it doesn’t get worse, she said.

Once it is pinpointed, the repair will be made, Moriarty said. She said that the valve problem may affect as few as one building.
