River City Cinema has unveiled its lineup for the 2015 edition of its annual outdoor movies series, held on Fridays in Pickering Square in downtown Bangor. This year’s series, which kicked off on Friday, June 26, will feature movies about music — not movie musicals, but movies that feature music prominently.

River City Cinema, a nonprofit organization devoted to bringing the art of cinema both new and old to the Bangor community, is now in its 13th year of offering outdoor movies in Pickering Square, projected onto its 15-foot inflatable movie screen and free and open to the public. RCC volunteer Gibran Graham said the screening regularly attracts several hundred people, who bring chairs, blankets and picnics to enjoy with the movie, which begins at sundown, around 8:30 p.m.

This year’s lineup includes the following movies — the first screening was on June 26 and featured John Waters’ 1980s comedy classic “Hairspray.” If any of the screenings are canceled due to rain, an Aug. 7 rain date is set for those films. Popcorn and other concessions will be available to purchase on site.

  • “Jailhouse Rock,” July 3, Elvis Presley’s 1950s classic.
  • “Saturday Night Fever,” July 10, the John Travolta disco-era blockbuster.
  • “The Muppet Movie,” July 17, the original 1979 film featuring the beloved puppets.
  • “That Thing You Do,” July 24, 1990s pop hit about a one-hit wonder band.
  • “Pitch Perfect,” July 31, contemporary Anna Kendrick megahit.
