BANGOR, Maine — A Passadumkeag man was sentenced Tuesday to one year and one day for receiving a firearm while under indictment during a hearing before Judge John Woodcock in U.S. District Court.

Winston Dale Cronkhite II, 32, also was ordered to undergo three years of supervised release after completing his prison term, U.S. Attorney Thomas E. Delahanty II said in a news release.

Cronkhite pleaded guilty to the charge on March 6, Delahanty said.

According to court records, Cronkhite was pulled over by the Maine State Police on Oct. 5, 2014, after a domestic dispute with his girlfriend. When he was stopped, Cronkhite had a 12-gauge shotgun and five shells on the passenger’s seat of his truck. The shotgun had been manufactured in March 2014.

Cronkhite was prohibited from receiving firearms at the time because he was then under indictment in Indiana for felony battery resulting in serious bodily injury, Delahanty said.

Cronkhite was indicted by the Penobscot County grand jury in November 2014 on charges of violation of a protective order, domestic violence assault and criminal mischief.

The investigation that led to Cronkhite’s prison sentence was conducted by the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, the Maine State Police and the Penobscot County district attorney’s office.
