ARUNDEL, Maine — A local man is facing a felony charge after allegedly stabbing his mother’s 4-year-old dog to death at their home, according to the York County Sheriff’s Office.
Jacob Belanger, 23, was not at the Alfred Road residence when deputies were summoned there around 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Sheriff William King.
Belanger had left the area after allegedly stabbing the chocolate lab to death, according to King.
As deputies were investigating the incident, Belanger returned home and was arrested, the sheriff said.
King said Belanger’s mother’s residence has numerous dogs, and he was apparently upset with the number of dogs in the house, in particular the “large dogs.”
Belanger had also apparently threatened to kill more dogs if they were still around when he returned home from work Tuesday.
Belanger was charged with aggravated animal cruelty and brought to York County Jail. Bail was set at $1,000.
