BATH, Maine — A local man is facing a weapons charge after allegedly firing a handgun inside his residence during an argument with a family member Sunday evening, according to police.

Henry Cygan, 71, is accused of reckless conduct with a firearm, a Class C felony, according to a statement from Bath police.

Investigative efforts revealed Cygan and the woman had been arguing throughout the day, and at one point he allegedly grabbed a firearm from a bedroom and fired it through the glass of the front door of the Crawford Drive residence, the statement said.

Shortly after firing the weapon, Cygan went outside to see if the bullet had damaged his truck in the driveway, leaving the gun inside, at which point the woman locked him out of the house.

Police arrived and took Cygan into custody as he was attempting to gain entry by using a knife to open the lock. He was unable to post $500 bail and taken to Two Bridges Regional Jail.
