OLD TOWN — Bucky Owen and John Bear Mitchell will lead a canoe excursion Saturday, July 18. Rain date is Sunday, July 19.
Participants will form a flotilla of six 28-foot canoes for a 10-mile journey from Hirundo Wildlife Refuge to Indian Island in Old Town. During the four to five stops along the way the canoes will raft together for talks about archaeology, past climates, Penobscot use of the area, Hirundo’s 50th anniversary, Penobscot River Restoration, fish migration and more. Bring a picnic lunch. Beverages will be provided.
Meet at Indian Island for carpooling in the parking area opposite 31 Wabanaki Way.

Registration deadline is Thursday, July 16. The cost is $10 Hirundo members, $15 others.
