ORRINGTON, Maine — Authorities searched the Penobscot River near the former HoltraChem plant after receiving a marine distress beacon signal shortly after 7 a.m. Thursday, but a search of the river turned up no boat in trouble.

Capt. Tim Kenney of the Orrington Fire Department said there was no sign of a watercraft in distress.

Sgt. Troy Dow of the Maine Marine Patrol said there was no sign of any vessel in distress.

Crews were alerted to the beacon between 7:30 and 7:45 a.m. Thursday.

Orrington and Bangor had rescue boats in the river searching the area. A rescue boat from Bucksport was cleared to leave the scene after no distressed boaters were found.
