A stately Victorian inn on Talbot Avenue in Rockland has been sold to a new owner.
An entity named EJ Estates LLC, which has a local address, purchased the inn for $3.3 million.
The transaction closed on Sept. 21, according to a transfer tax declaration form filed with the state.
The company that sold the inn, Maude & Dixie LLC, was the second owner of the business, which originally was built as a private home in the 1890s, according to the city’s assessing records. The original owner, Charles H. Berry, was a prominent local merchant who had the 6,000-square-foot structure built as a home for his new wife, MaineBiz reported in 2020.
“Renowned for its homemade pies, grand hospitality with a Victorian flair, luxurious comfort and genuine hospitality, our romantic Rockland, Maine inn offers the ideal mid-coast location for exploring Maine’s arts, heritage, lighthouses and coastal sights,” the inn’s website says.
The business has 12 guest rooms, each with either a queen- or king-sized bed, an en-suite bathroom and a working fireplace. The property is one of several in the Rockland Residential Historic District, which is listed in the National Register of Historic Places.
Previous owners Cheryl Michaelsen and Michael LaPosta opened the inn in 1999, a year after they purchased the property for $300,000, city records indicate. The current assessed value of the property, which includes a 0.6-acre parcel of land the inn sits on, is $1.2 million.
Maude & Dixie LLC also owned the neighboring Talbot House inn, but sold that property earlier this year, according to Midcoast Villager. Katie Witt and James Wood, doing business as Wittwood Estates LLC, purchased Talbot House in late May for $1.3 million, the Villager reported.
Additional information about the company that purchased the inn was unavailable Friday afternoon.
