DEAD RIVER TOWNSHIP, Maine — A Hebron man is recovering from injuries suffered on a hike along the Maine portion of the Appalachian Trail on Wednesday.

John Jutras, 64, suffered a knee injury and dislocated thumb, according to Maine Warden Service Cpl. John MacDonald.

Game wardens were called to an area south of the Little Bigelow Lean-To around 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, MacDonald said.

More than 20 people, including game wardens, Carrabassett Valley Fire and Rescue, North Star Ambulance, the Maine Forest Service, North Star Ambulance, Franklin County Search and Rescue and Eustis Fire and Rescue assisted in the effort to carry Jutras off the trail and to an ambulance, MacDonald said.

Jutras was brought to Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington.
