PORTLAND, Maine — A South Portland man faces up to 10 years behind bars after pleading guilty Thursday to a firearms charge, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
Sean Johnson, 32, who also uses the aliases Thomas Butler and Wayne Sunderland, will be sentenced at a later date. He pled guilty in U.S. District Court.
According to court documents, on May 23, Johnson pulled up alongside another vehicle at the intersection of Payne Road and the Maine Turnpike connector in Scarborough and fired a shot into the vehicle.
While the shot missed the two occupants, the bullet became wedged in the driver’s side door, and Johnson subsequently fled down Payne Road.
Scarborough police found Johnson’s vehicle a short time later after a passing motorist had called 911, and he was found in nearby woods and arrested. A semi-automatic pistol was found buried under leaves near Johnson’s vehicle.
Due to a felony drug trafficking conviction from 2013, Johnson was prohibited from possessing firearms. He also faces a $250,000 fine and three years of supervised release in addition to prison time.
