TROY, Maine — A Freedom man died and his three passengers were injured Monday night after their vehicle went off North Dixmont Road in Troy and crashed into some trees.
Scott Anderson Jr., 24, was driving the 2001 Chevrolet Impala at about 8:40 p.m. when he crashed into the ditch and then the trees, according to a press release from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. Anderson, who died as a result of his injuries, and the front passenger had to be cut out of the Impala with Jaws of Life equipment.
Passengers Casey White, 20, of Clinton, Jesse Weeman, 19, of Dixmont and a 16-year-old female passenger, who was not identified by police, all suffered serious injuries in the crash, Lt. Jason Trundy wrote in the release.
Trundy said the cause of the crash remains under investigation and that speed is considered a factor.
Responding crews from the sheriff’s office and the Troy and Unity volunteer fire departments worked for more than an hour to extricate the trapped people. The victims were taken to area hospitals for treatment by Unity and Sebasticook Valley ambulance services.
Trundy wrote that the accident is being reconstructed by Deputies Ben Seekins and Cody Laite of the sheriff’s office.
