The Maine Lumberjacks boys basketball team recently won the Naismith U14 division championship at the BasketBull Hall of Fame Invitational tournament at Springfield, Massachusetts.
The team of seventh- and eighth-graders is coached by Chris Lausier and Jon Glazier and consists of tournament MVP Bryce Lausier, Isaac Varney and Henry Westrick, all of Glenburn; Jagger Cummings of Holbrook, Kory Winch of Hampden, Marc Hutchings of Bangor; Jackson Weatherbee of Lincoln; and Nolan Porter and Nick Brewer of Houlton.
The Lumberjacks defeated the Mass Swarm 60-37 in the semifinals. Bryce Lausier led the way with 20 points while Brewer scored 11 points and Cummings (7 points), Varney (7), Westrich (5), Hutchings (4), Weatherbee (3) and Porter (3) also contributed offensively.
They then scored a 61-45 victory over the South New Hampshire Saints in the championship game as four different Lumberjacks scored in double figures.
Varney totaled 14 points and 10 rebounds while Lausier had 12 points and six assists, Porter scored 12 points and Winch had 10. Brewer contributed six points and 12 rebounds for the champions, Hutchings had three points and 12 rebounds and Weatherbee and Cummings scored two points each.
The Lumberjacks completed its season as state of Maine AAU 14U runners-up, Zero Gravity Battle at the Border champions and Black Bear Open champions as well as winning their Naismith division title at the Hall of Fame Invitational.
