The Northern Maine Class “E” State Softball Tournament was held July 18 in Caribou. Only four teams participated this year — two teams from Aroostook County, Griffeth Ford and County Boys-Anderson Store; one team from Bangor, HWG; and one team from Ellsworth, The Crew.
Because there were so few teams, the tournament was played in round robin style. Each team played one another once and the tournament was held for one day instead of two. The two teams with the best record played in a championship game.
The Championship Game included HWG and the County Boys-Anderson Store. County Boys-Anderson Store were ahead in the first inning 5-0. HWG came back with a run in the second inning and tied the game up in the third. In the fifth inning, County Boys-Andersons Store gained two runs but in the bottom of the inning HWG tied it back up 7-7. Going into the seventh, knotted 8-8, the County Boys/Anderson Store rallied to score five runs and put the game away 13-8.
Jon Noyes of the County Boys-Anderson Store had a big game, scoring three runs and driving in two. Eric Berube pitched for the win.
