Pedal the Penobscot
BANGOR — Ride along the scenic Penobscot River while showing support for Bangor Land Trust and healthy alternative transportation 6:30 a.m.-3 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 13. Every donation will help to preserve public access to Bangor’s wild back yard.
Pedal the Penobscot is a ride, not a race. Riders of all ages and abilities are encouraged to take part. Those under 14 must be accompanied by an adult.
Choose from 14-, 28-, 50-, 76- and 100-mile routes that showcase the beautiful Penobscot River. All riders check in at the Bangor waterfront. Cyclists who opt for the 14-mile ride begin in Bradley. At the time of registration, indicate if you and your bike need a lift to Bradley. All other cyclists will begin their rides at the Bangor waterfront.
Rest stops, sweeps and sag wagons will available throughout the ride. Riders must wear helmets and obey all traffic laws. Pedal the Penobscot will take place rain or shine.
Riders will be treated to a post-ride lunch and celebration at the Sea Dog Brewing Co. in Bangor and receive an annual membership to Bangor Land Trust. The first 150 riders to register also will receive a commemorative T-shirt.

Nominees sought
The Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife is seeking nominations for the 2015 annual Lifetime Outdoor Achievement Award. Nominees for the award should be Maine residents who have hunted, trapped and fished for a combined total of 40 years. For example, an individual who has fished for 20 years, trapped for 10 years and taught hunter safety for 10 years would be an ideal candidate.
Nominations should include the nominee’s name, address, phone number and a few paragraphs about the individual, his or her experience in the Maine outdoors and why he or she is a deserving candidate. Nominations may be emailed to Bonnie Holding at bonnie.holding@maine.gov or mailed to: 284 State St, SHS 41, Augusta ME 04333. The deadline for nominations is 5 p.m. Monday, Aug. 10. The award will be presented on Sept. 12.
