GRAND ISLE, Maine — A Frenchville man was taken to a hospital early Monday morning after a single-vehicle accident on U.S. Route 1, according to Maine State Police.

Stephen Benbow, 19, was traveling east just before 6:30 a.m. when his 1997 Dodge Dakota veered off the road, striking a utility pole and coming to rest in a small stream at the bottom of an embankment, according to Trooper Dan Marquis.

Benbow, who was wearing his seat belt at the time, was taken by ambulance to Northern Maine Medical Center with injuries to his left forearm, Marquis said. He was treated and then released in good condition, according to Joanne Fortin, NMMC spokesperson.

The trooper said Benbow did not remember what happened and that speed was not a factor. He was traveling alone in the vehicle.

Marquis was assisted at the scene by the Grand Isle Fire Department and Van Buren Ambulance.
