SKOWHEGAN, Maine — The town’s police chief tendered his resignation on Monday, effective immediately, citing personal and family issues, Town Manager Christine Almand confirmed on Wednesday.
Ted Blais had served as the police chief for two years, Almand said. Deputy Police Chief Don Bolduc will oversee the department until a new police chief is hired, which Almand said likely won’t happen for several months.
Almand said plans have not yet been put in place for the police chief search.
“That’s something I’ll be speaking with selectmen about in the near future,” Almand said. “It’s likely that we’ll be posting it, but I want to discuss with them if we’re going to put together a hiring committee and all the steps to the process.
“We haven’t gotten there yet because I just got the resignation on Monday,” she added.
Almand said she was aware that the police chief might be stepping down.
“We had had discussions, and through our discussions, we decided that Monday would be his last day so that he could deal with the issues,” she said.
Before Blais was hired to lead Skowhegan’s police force, he was chief of police for the University of Maine at Farmington and an officer with the Gorham Police Department, according to published reports.
