BANGOR, Maine — U.S. Southwest pitcher Joe Gobillot didn’t allow a hit or a run in 5⅓ innings to lead his team from Houston, Texas, to an 8-2 victory over U.S. Southeast champ Dumfries, Virginia, during Senior League World Series action Monday morning at Mansfield Stadium.

Gobillot walked four and struck out five before reaching the 95-pitch limit.

Virginia reached reliever Barron Brown for two runs in the bottom of the seventh, but defending World Series champion Houston, now 2-0, had built a comfortable cushion behind the efforts of Turner Gauntt and John Doxakis.

Gauntt finished with a triple, two singles and three RBIs while Doxakis chipped in with a solo home run and two singles.

Jacob Millender, Mitchell Black, Joe Sondock and Thomas Parks each contributed two singles to Houston’s 15-hit attack with Parks leading with two RBIs. Black and Sondock also drove in a run.

Robbie Stoss had Virginia’s only hit while Carson Arguin and Colton Lee each drove in a run.

In Monday’s other games, Maine District 3 champ Old Town beat Asia Pacific champ Saipan of the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands 6-2 and Latin America champ Willemstad, Curacao, edged U.S. West champ Nogales, Arizona, 7-3.

In the nightcap, Europe-Africa champ Lazio, Italy, defeated Canada champ Regina, Saskatchewan, 6-3.

Curacao used four pitchers to limit Arizona to four hits with Halim Rosalina getting the bulk of the work and recording the win. He pitched four shutout innings, giving up two hits and three walks.

Alex Henrietta sparked the Curacao offense with a double, two singles, an RBI and two runs. Siamari Boekhoudt chipped in with three singles, an RBI and a run. Rallson Bentura, Jisjar Clotida and Geedion Jakob each drove in a run.

Paulo Rodriguez paced Arizona with a single and two RBIs while Kevin Jimenez chipped in with a single, double and two runs.

In Monday’s final game, Italy struck for three first-inning runs en route to the win.

Lorenzo Olivieri singled in the inning’s first run and Leonardo Bulfone added a two-run single.

Simone Fontana picked up the win for Italy as he scattered seven hits and a walk while striking out seven. Bulfone came on to get the game’s last out after Fontana reached the pitch-count limit.

Olivieri finished with a double and single with two RBIs while Piero Cianfrigilia added two hits. Bulfone drove in three runs.

Jayden Lorenz singled twice for Canada while Adam De Corby and Dylan Bells each plated a run.

In Sunday night’s late game, U.S. East champ Upper Moreland, Pennsylvania, outlasted Curacao 3-0 in 10 innings.

Nick DeLucas and Ryan Lowry each notched RBI singles to spark the Pennsylvania rally.

Pennsylvania was held to four hits with Brandon Kohn and Andy Iehle each adding a single.

Kevin Walker picked up the pitching win by holding Curacao to three hits and two walks over the final 3⅓ innings.

Curacao’s Christopher Koelman turned in a two-hit, eight-inning effort before giving way to the pitch-count rule. He didn’t walk a batter and struck out seven.

On Tuesday, Latin America will open the four-game day against U.S. Southeast at 10 a.m., followed Europe-Africa against Asia Pacific at 1 p.m., U.S. Southeast vs. U.S. East at 5 p.m., and Old Town against U.S. Central at 8 p.m.
