Clowney’s father faces attempted murder charge

The father of Houston Texans defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was charged with attempted murder and possession of a weapon after a shooting at a bar in Rock Hill, S.C.

David Morgan was arrested and in jail awaiting a bond hearing on Wednesday, Rock Hill Police Capt. Mark Bollinger said.

According to police, Morgan was removed from the Crazy Horse Showclub from sitting on the stage and was later spotted behind the property. He was seen allegedly firing at club employee Braxton Homesley, who returned fire.

After the incident, Morgan was at Piedmont Medical Center undergoing treatment for a gunshot wound to the shoulder with police picked him up.

Morgan was in prison while his son starred in high school in Rock Hill. His previous convictions include assault and battery and burglary. As a convicted felon, he was prohibited from possessing a gun.

Clowney, currently on the Texans’ inactive list, starred at South Carolina and was the No. 1 pick in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Morgan could face up to 30 years in prison on the attempted murder charge and up to five years on the weapons charge.

Jazz’s Exum reportedly tears ACL

Utah Jazz guard Dante Exum injured his knee Tuesday while playing for the Australia National Team in a game against the Slovenian National Team in Ljubljana, Slovenia.

The Deseret News reported initial fears are that Exum tore his ACL. He will be re-evaluated in Utah.

If Exum did sustain a torn ACL, he most likely will miss the upcoming season.

Exum drove into the lane and jump-stopped before crumpling to the ground without making contact with anyone.

Exum was the fifth overall pick in the 2014 draft. He averaged 4.8 points, 2.4 assists and 1.6 rebounds in his rookie season. He also was one of just four rookies (Andrew Wiggins, Nicola Mirotic and Elfrid Payton) to play in all 82 games.

Former Lions RB Mel Farr dies

Former UCLA and Detroit Lions running back Mel Farr died Monday, the family confirmed. Farr was 70.

Farr played seven NFL season with the Lions (1967-73) and was named Offensive Rookie of the Year in 1967.

Farr finished his pro career in 1973 with 3,072 yards rushing and 36 total touchdowns because of knee and shoulder injuries.

After his playing career, Farr bought a dealership for $40,000 and grew it to become Farr Automotive Group, one of the nation’s largest auto empires that expanded to 11 dealerships.

That business was dismantled because of default loan payments to Ford Motor Company.

Dolphins pick up WR Cone

The Miami Dolphins claimed wide receiver Kevin Cone off waivers on Tuesday from the Cleveland Browns.
