NEWPORT, Maine — Two Newport residents, a woman and a man, were arrested hours apart on Thursday in separate domestic violence cases, according to the town’s police chief.

Jacinta Eldridge, 19, and Prestin Ryan, 35, are both facing charges of domestic violence assault, Newport Police Chief Leonard Macdaid said in an email Friday.

In the first case, reported shortly before 3 p.m., Eldridge allegedly tossed a metal cooking tray at a male family member during an argument, according to Macdaid.

The victim was bleeding upon police’ arrival but did not require hospital transportation.

The case involving Ryan was reported shortly before 10 p.m., Macdaid said, when he allegedly pushed a female family member to the floor.

Ryan also allegedly pulled the woman’s hair while she was on the ground and pushed her head down with his open hand, according to Macdaid. He also allegedly threw the couple’s small dog at the woman. She complained of neck pain but was otherwise uninjured.

Ryan and Eldridge were transported to Penobscot County Jail, where bail for each was set at $2,000.
