PALMYRA, Maine — A Fairfield man was seriously injured Wednesday when his motorcycle was struck by a sport utility vehicle on Route 2, according to the Somerset County Sheriff’s Office.
Chad Wynne, 36, was traveling east at the intersection of Ell Hill Road when a Ford Explorer driven by David Roundy, 75, attempted to enter Route 2 and hit Wynne’s bike, according to Chief Deputy James Ross.
Wynne was not wearing a helmet, and Roundy had stopped at a stop sign before making his turn, Ross said.
Roundy was not injured, and his vehicle had minor damage, the chief deputy said. Wynne suffered serious injuries and was taken to Eastern Maine Medical Center in Bangor, he said.
Deputy Will Dodge is investigating the crash, and speed and alcohol are not considered factors. Ross said the intersection of Ell Hill Road and Route 2 has been notorious for crashes over the years.
