VINALHAVEN, Maine — A 49-year-old Vinalhaven man was arrested Friday evening and charged with repeatedly punching another fisherman over a mooring dispute.
Robert L. Jackomino was initially arrested by the Knox County Sheriff’s Office on suspicion of aggravated assault. He was held over the weekend at the Knox County Jail in Rockland without bail.
On Monday afternoon, the district attorney’s office filed a formal charge of assault, a less serious offense than aggravated assault. Judge Barbara Raimondi set bail at $750 cash during Jackomino’s initial appearance in Knox County Unified Court in Rockland.
According to an affidavit filed by the Sheriff’s Office, Jackomino confronted another fisherman on a float at a fishing wharf on the island and punched the man such that the victim fell into the water. The victim said when he got back on the float and started up a ramp, Jackomino punched him again,
The victim was taken to the Island Community Medical Services clinic. He was suffering from a possible concussion as well as an aggravation of an inner ear problem as a result of the assault, according to the affidavit.
Jackomino told a deputy that he punched the victim after the man had threatened to get a shotgun, according to the affidavit.
