GRAY, Maine — Heat and humidity continued to hover over the state Tuesday, and a few counties were under air quality alerts, according to the National Weather Service.
Temperatures throughout the state were expected to hover around 90 degrees throughout the day.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection issued the alerts for Cumberland, York and Sagadahoc counties. Those alerts are expected to be in effect until 11 p.m.
During air quality alerts, people should avoid performing strenuous activities and avoid using small gasoline-powered engines such as lawn mowers, leaf blowers, tractors and chainsaws.
Temperatures are expected to cool off as the week progresses.
