ROCKLAND, Maine — A 45-year-old Rockland man remained in jail Thursday after being arrested early Wednesday morning for threatening to kill his wife and her former husband.
Judge Patricia Worth set bail Wednesday in Knox County Unified Court at $5,000 cash for Robert S. James. James was charged with domestic violence criminal threatening, domestic violence terrorizing, criminal threatening and criminal mischief.
According to an affidavit filed by Rockland police, James threatened to kill his wife and her former husband after he learned that she had left him for the former husband. When police arrived at James’ house, officers found that he had punched holes in the wall and in a door, smashed picture frames over his head, and destroyed items belonging to his wife.
The Rockland officer handcuffed James, who said he was suicidal, and took him for a medical evaluation, according to the affidavit. On the way to Pen Bay Medical Center, James repeatedly said he would murder his wife as soon as he got out of jail. The wife and her former husband said they had received the same threats from James, according to the affidavit.
James was taken to the Knox County Jail after being seen at the hospital.
