ORONO, Maine — Charlene Achille scored on an assist from Kaitlin Saulter at 30:28 on Friday evening to lift the University of Maine women’s soccer team to a season-opening 1-0 victory over Fairfield University at Mahaney Diamond.

Achille took a centering pass from Saulter and scored with a low shot to the left side of the net past Fairfield goalie Jenna Pike.

Maine generated seven shots on goal with Pike making six saves, while Black Bears’ goalie Claudia Dube-Trempe stopped the only two shots on goal she faced to preserve the shutout.

Madawaska 4, Easton 0

At Madawaska, Aspen Cote scored two goals to lead the Owls to their season-opening victory.

The game was halted at halftime because of poor field conditions.

Chelsea Daigle and Kasie Blanchette each added a goal for Madawaska.

Alexis Levesque was in goal for the 1-0-0 Owls and did not face any shots.

Blake Bradley was in goal for 0-2-0 Easton and made nine saves on 13 Madawaska shots.
