DOVER-FOXCROFT, Maine — A Millinocket man accused of trying to drown a woman in April in a culvert outside her Greenville home pleaded not guilty Monday at the Piscataquis County Courthouse to one count each of attempted murder, aggravated assault and assault.

Galen Thibodeau, 44, was indicted last month by the Piscataquis County grand jury.

He is being held without bail at the Piscataquis County Jail pending a probation revocation hearing Monday, according to his attorney, Jeffrey Silverstein of Bangor.

Thibodeau was on probation for a previous domestic violence conviction when he was arrested May 1 in connection with the alleged attempted drowning. The victim in that case is not the same woman involved in the alleged drowning, Silverstein said Monday.

If his probation is not revoked, Thibodeau would have to post bail set at $20,000 cash or $50,000 surety to be free while awaiting trial.

He is scheduled to be tried on the new charges in November, according to the Piscataquis County court clerk’s office.

Thibodeau allegedly tried to drown the Greenville woman in a water-filled culvert outside her home April 15 after a dispute between the woman and Thibodeau’s girlfriend at the time, Piscataquis County District Attorney R. Christopher Almy said in June.

If convicted, Thibodeau faces up to 30 years in prison and a fine of up to $50,000 on the most serious charge of attempted murder.
