SKOWHEGAN, Maine — A Pittsfield man who pleaded guilty Tuesday of gross sexual assault was sentenced to 10 years in prison, with all but four years suspended, during a hearing at Somerset Unified Court.
Stephen S. Lowe, 39, also was ordered to undergo four years of probation and be a lifetime registrant on Maine’s Sex Offender Registry upon completing his prison term, Somerset County Chief Deputy James Ross said in a news release.
Lowe was convicted as a result of an investigation conducted by Somerset County Detective Jeremy Leal. In February, Leal was notified by the Somerset County District Attorney’s Office of a possible sex offense in Pittsfield involving Lowe and a female family member under the age of 14.
The referral originated from a Maine Department of Health and Human Services report, Ross said. Leal’s investigation determined the offense had occurred, and Lowe was arrested March 3. He had been free on bail since that date.
