CARRABASSETT VALLEY, Maine — Despite wet weather and a 40-minute rain delay, the first round of the American Junior Golf Association Coca-Cola Junior Championship kicked off Tuesday at the Sugarloaf Golf Club.

Tucker Allen of Granbury, Texas, leads the men’s field with a 1-over par 73. Andrew McInerney and Connor Henderson are tied for second place, one stroke behind Allen.

Reese McFarlane, of Cape Elizabeth, sits in fourth place with a 3-over par 75.

The championship is a 54-hole stroke play event, spanning four days with three rounds of competitive play. The tournament field is comprised of more than 140 male and female competitors ages 12-18, hailing from 17 different states, and eight countries. Nine competitors are from Maine.

The tournament field will be cut to a minimum of 50 percent following the second round.

On the women’s side, SiQin Yu of Bradenton, Florida, Maisie Filler of Bloomfield Connecticut, Christina Lu of Longwood, Fla., and Haeley Wotnosky of Wake Forest, North Carolina, finished in a four-way tie for first place with a 6-over par 78.

Among the other eight players from Maine in this week’s tournament, Drew Powell of Bangor is tied for sixth place with a 6-over 78, Cole Anderson of Camden finished with a 79, and Caleb Manuel of Topsham finished 10 strokes back in 35th.
