BANGOR, Maine — A Wing Street man was arrested Tuesday afternoon after reportedly leading a city police officer on a brief chase through a West Side neighborhood.

Thomas Blake, 30, is charged with operating after suspension of his driver’s license, failure to display a valid inspection sticker, failure to stop at a stop sign, unnecessary noise with tires and failure to stop for police, Sgt. Tim Cotton said Tuesday afternoon.

The string of events that led to Blake’s arrest began shortly after 2 p.m. and lasted only minutes.

Officer Jermaine Walker was patrolling the area when he spotted Blake’s pickup truck and noticed it lacked a current inspection sticker, Cotton said. Blake then allegedly accelerated rapidly from Hammond Street onto Seventh Street, screeching his tires as he did so.

“When Officer Walker turned on his blue lights and siren, the man accelerated and left and did kind of a circular drive around Seventh and Wing streets several times, finally stopping near his home,” Cotton said.

“He exited the vehicle for Officer Walker at that time. He voluntarily laid down on the ground and was taken into custody without incident,” the sergeant said. “He was probably trying to make it home and went around the block a couple of times.”

Blake was taken to Penobscot County Jail. He was released on bail later in the day, a jail official confirmed.
