FRIENDSHIP, Maine — A truck carrying 2,200 gallons of fuel rolled on its roof Tuesday.
The Maine Coast Petroleum delivery truck was driving on Bradford Point Road shortly before 1 p.m. when the vehicle got onto the soft shoulder and rolled onto its roof in a ditch, according to Knox County Sheriff Donna Dennison.
The driver was wearing a seat belt and was able to get out of the vehicle through the passenger door.
The driver Michael Whiten, 42, of South Thomaston was taken to a hospital by Waldoboro Emergency Medical Services but returned to the accident scene, saying he would just be sore in the morning, according to the sheriff.
The truck was carrying 1,500 gallons of gasoline and 700 gallons of diesel fuel. The sheriff said fuel did not spill in the crash.
The road was shut down by the fire department until the truck was removed.
The Maine Department of Environmental Protection responded. Clean Harbors from Bangor also responded to pump the fuel out of the truck.
Deputy Justin Hills from the sheriff’s office and Maine State Police Trooper Mark Barney from commercial vehicle enforcement also responded.
