NEW VINEYARD, Maine — A Massachusetts man was killed late Sunday after losing control of his vehicle on Route 27, according to the Franklin County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies had attempted to pull over Jonathan Daellenbach, 29, after he was clocked going nearly 20 mph over the posted speed limit, according to Sheriff Scott Nichols.

Daellenbach accelerated to speeds as high as 96 mph as deputies pursued him south, according to Nichols, and a deputy discovered the vehicle off the road in a stand of trees near the Basin Road intersection.

Daellenbach had rolled the car, crashing it into a stone wall and the tree, Nichols said. He died at the scene.

There were no passengers in the vehicle, and Daellenbach was wearing a seat belt. An investigation is ongoing.
