PALERMO, Maine — A 30-year-old man is facing a slew of charges after police responded to a 911 report of a domestic disturbance last week on Nelson Lane.

The woman who called for help Thursday night said she had been assaulted by her boyfriend, Justin Hardesty of Palermo, according to a report from the Waldo County Sheriff’s Office. Sgt. James Greeley and Dep. Kevin Littlefield went to the residence, where they allegedly found the woman in need of medical treatment and Hardesty gone. Police were told that an argument between Hardesty and the woman had turned physical when he reportedly threw dinner plates at her, knocked her to the ground and kicked her in the ribs.

The woman was taken by Delta Ambulance to a hospital for medical treatment, according to the report from Chief Deputy Jason Trundy.

Officers trying to find Hardesty asked for a police dog to help with the search, and Trooper Bill Nagle arrived with his police dog, Draco. Nagle tracked Hardesty to a wooded area behind the house, where he was arrested and charged with domestic violence assault, domestic violence criminal mischief, unlawful possession of scheduled drugs and possession of scheduled drugs.

Police said they found several types of prescription medication on Hardesty after his arrest.

Hardesty was taken to Waldo County Jail in Belfast, and he was released Saturday on $500 cash bail, jail officials said Monday.
