RICHMOND, Maine — A former Richmond man will serve five years and one day in prison as part of a plea agreement related to a February incident in Richmond.
Jedidiah Wasilewski, 26, currently of Belfast, was arrested on Route 24 in Richmond the night of Feb. 17 and charged with Class A felony robbery, assault on an officer, operating under the influence and other crimes.
Police said at the time that Wasilewski hit one man with the butt of a BB gun and stole a 2005 Ford Escape from another man, then drove the Escape onto Route 24 and crashed at the intersection of Knickerbocker Road, totaling the vehicle.
When officers arrived at the crash, they ordered him out of the car at gunpoint, according to court documents, but he ran into the woods.
“Mr. Wasilewski was less than cooperative and had to be Tased to get him to comply,” Richmond Police Chief Scott MacMaster said at the time.
Once he was arrested, Wasilewski allegedly caused an estimated $1,200 in damage to the police cruiser.
While at Mid Coast Hospital being cleared for potential injuries from the crash and the Taser, Wasilewski allegedly hit and pushed Officer James Donnell again, causing minor injuries.
Wasilewski was convicted in 2006 of aggravated assault charges in Bath, and just four months before the Richmond incident pleaded guilty to charges including domestic violence assault and assault stemming from a March 2014 incident in Belfast. He was sentenced to three years in prison with all but 12 months suspended, Waldo County Assistant District Attorney Bill Entwisle said.
As part of a plea agreement with the Sagadahoc County district attorney’s office, Wasilewski pleaded guilty to Class B felony robbery, Class C felony criminal threatening and misdemeanor charges of theft, operating under the influence, refusing to submit to arrest or detention and criminal mischief, according to court documents. The district attorney’s office dismissed charges of Class A robbery and Class B aggravated assault, according to court documents.
He was sentenced to 10 years in prison for robbery, with all but five years and one day suspended and four years probation.
Wasilewski will serve sentences for the remaining crimes concurrent with those five years, including three years for criminal threatening, 180 days for refusing to submit and 364 days for the remaining charges.
