BOSTON, Massachusetts — Ian Lee scored two goals as the Husson University Eagles surged to a 3-0 lead en route to a 3-2 men’s soccer victory over the Suffolk University Rams Tuesday in a mutual season opener.
Phil Frost put Husson on the board at the 12:05 mark of the first half and Lee added goals at 51:14 and 54:07 of the second half. Josh Bellomo assisted on Frost’s goal while Josh Bean picked up assists on both of Lee’s goals.
The Rams responded when Eugenio Ottino converted a penalty kick and Alvin Di scored unassisted, but the Eagles held on.
Suffolk outshot Husson 18-12 with Husson’s Cody Cross making six saves and Andrew Wicklund making two. Suffolk’s Ianis Teixeira made two saves.
UNE 2, MMA 1
At Castine, the University of New England scored two second-half goals to edge Maine Maritime Academy in each team’s opener.
Erik Holmqvist and Dan Good each recorded an unassisted goal for UNE after Jonathan Reeks had given MMA a first-half lead courtesy of a Kyle Haslam assist.
Elijah Leverett finished with four saves on 17 shots for UNE while MMA’s Joshua Reeks faced 10 shots without a save.
UMFK 3, Thomas 0
At Waterville, Rodney Witter, Rossie Downie and Willie Monthe each scored a second-half goal to help UMaine-Fort Kent roll by Thomas.
Jamie Reid, Kalusha Kotes and Odean Irons each notched an assist for the Warriors (2-0) and Butch Forbes made six saves.
Joakim Sternas made two saves for Thomas (0-2).
Women’s Soccer
MMA 2, Gordon 1
At Castine, Susana DeFrank’s goal off a Morgan Libby assist propelled Maine Maritime Academy to the overtime win over Gordon in a mutual opener.
Makayla Lewis scored a first-half for MMA from a Briana Obshatkin assist but Gordon equalized in the second half at 56:02 when Kaelyn Silveira converted a Tori Caswell assist.
McKenzie Dion finished with six saves on 11 shots for MMA while Maggie McConkey made three saves on eight shots.
