Stars’ Peverley retiring as a player

Center Rich Peverley said he is retiring as a player and will move into the Dallas Stars’ front office in the player development department, the Dallas Morning News reported.

Peverley’s last NHL game was on March 10, 2014, when he played for the Dallas Stars. He collapsed on the bench due to a cardiac event and has not played since.

“I was working out, monitoring how I was doing, continuing to see doctors to exhaust every avenue and find out exactly if I could play,” Peverley told the Morning News. “It’s a case that’s very complicated, and what I have learned is there is no 100 percent to medicine and, unfortunately, I can’t play anymore.”

Peverley, 33, played 442 regular season games and 59 postseason contests in his career. He won a Stanley Cup while with the Boston Bruins in 2011.
