EMBDEN, Maine — A 17-year-old Norridgewock teenager drowned while swimming with his younger brother in Embden Pond on Sunday.
Maine Wardens say Scott Brown was swimming with his younger brother when he went underwater and did not come back up. His brother tried to pull him out but couldn’t. He went for help from two girls nearby and the three of them pulled Brown to shore. Brown was brought to Redington-Fairview General Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.
Wardens say Brown wasn’t tangled in anything that would have held him under and are not sure what happened. They say dehydration or a muscle cramp may have been factors.
Brown was a Skowhegan Area High School honor roll student and football player. He had just begun his senior year and was only a few weeks away from his 18th birthday.
