PORTLAND, Maine — Portland boxer Russell Lamour Jr. will seek to avenge his only professional loss when he challenges New England middleweight champion Thomas Falowo Nov. 14 at the Portland Exhibition Building.
Lamour, the Deering High School graduate known as the “Haitian Sensation,” currently holds the North American middleweight championship but lost the New England crown by unanimous decision to Falowo Jan. 30 in an eight-round bout nationally telecast by ESPN2.
That fight, held at the Foxwoods Resort Casino in Mashantucket, Connecticut, was close throughout with the boxers throwing nearly an identical number of punches through seven rounds.
But Falowo of Pawtucket, Rhode Island, connected on a larger percentage of his punches and his ring presence as the aggressor for more of the bout earned him victory on the judges’ scorecards by 78-74, 77-75 and 77-75.
Falowo (13-3) has not fought since his victory over Lamour, while Lamour (12-1) returned to the ring in June with an eight-round unanimous decision over Derrick Findley of Gary, Indiana, at the Portland Expo. Findley was a replacement for Eric Mitchell of Vero Beach, Florida, who suffered an injury while training.
Falowo and Lamour are quite familiar opponents, having fought five times as amateurs before they turned pro. Lamour won the first four amateur bouts before Falowo won the fifth meeting.
The Nov. 14 card, promoted by Bobby Russo and the Portland Boxing club, also will feature New England super bantamweight champion Jorge Abiague and other Portland-area pro prospects in undefeated middleweight Jason “The Fighting Fireman” Quirk and undefeated super welterweight Casey Kramlich.
The special guest for the show will be former world lightweight champion Ray “Boom Boom” Mancini, who earlier this year was inducted into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.
