ROCKPORT, Massachusetts — A woman fell off a cruise ship 10 miles off the Cape Ann coast Friday night and her body was later recovered by the Rockport Harbormasters.

Coast Guard Sector Boston received a distress call via radio channel VHF-16 around 7 p.m. from the cruise ship Seabourn Quest saying a person had fallen overboard. The Coast Guard dispatched a 47-foot Motor Life Boat from Station Gloucester, a MH-60 Jayhawk helicopter from Air Station Cape Cod, and the 270-foot cutter Campbell, homeported in Portsmouth, New Hampshire.

The Rockport Harbormasters also responded and found the woman about seven miles out around 8:30 p.m. Harbormaster officials later confirmed she was dead.

No details about the woman or how she went overboard were immediately released.

The Seabourn Quest is a 650-foot cruise ship homeported out of the Bahamas. The ship had left Boston on Friday afternoon and was bound for Bar Harbor, Maine, the first stop on a 10-day cruise to Montreal.
