A state police trooper was shot and killed late Sunday in western Kentucky, authorities said Monday.
The trooper was shot in Lyon County near Interstate 24, a section of which was shut down as police searched for the suspect, according to CBS affiliate WKYT in Lexington.
Kentucky State Police spokesman Michael Webb confirmed the trooper was fatally wounded but would not disclose the trooper’s name nor any information about the incident.
“We have a very dangerous situation at this time,” Lyon County Judge Executive Wade White said on Facebook.
White said the shooter was “armed and dangerous” and traveling on foot, possibly with at least one other person.
