BANGOR — On, Wednesday, Sept. 23, the Bangor public health department will host a forum on marijuana policy, health and safety at the Gracie Theatre at Husson University.
Attendees will hear a keynote by Thomas J. Gorman, director of the Rocky Mountain High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area, a program run by the United States Office of National Drug Control Policy. He will discuss emerging data in Colorado after the legalization of medical and recreational marijuana there.
There will also be a panel presentation by local experts in the fields of law enforcement, public health, substance abuse treatment and recovery and health care.
A reception for the event will begin at 5:30 p.m., and the evening program will start at 6 p.m. It’s free and open to the public.
The organizers, Bangor Public Health and Community Services and Healthy Acadia, which serves Hancock and Washington counties, are inviting the public to submit questions about the science and policy of marijuana, to be answered at the event.
As two competing efforts try to get different marijuana legalization questions on the Maine ballot in 2016, what do you want to know about current and potential future policy? How has the legalization of recreational marijuana in other states been going? How are the costs and revenues associated with legalization measured?
